The exchange of threats by the leaders of the United States and North Korea is unacceptable, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference on Friday.
“As far as exchanging threats is concerned, of course, this is bad. It is unacceptable to watch the reckless experiments of North Korea with missiles and nuclear tests, but it is also unacceptable to start a war on the Korean Peninsula,” the minister said in a press conference on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York City.
“If those threats are converted into practical actions, this is what will happen. So we need to cool down some hot heads. We need to understand that we need to take a pause,” he added.
In his address to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald J. Trump threatened to “totally destroy North Korea,” if Washington is forced to defend itself or its allies. In addition, he called North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “Rocket Man.”
In his response to the remarks, Mr. Kim vowed to “tame the mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire.”
Mr. Trump reacted quite promptly, calling his counterpart “a madman” and promising that he “will be tested like never before.”
