The election commission of the Kurdistan Regional Government said Wednesday that more than 92 percent of people who voted in the referendum said yes to leaving Iraq.
According to initial results, 92.7 percent of voters backed the measure. The electoral commission previously said turnout was 72 percent.
Voters on Monday were asked to choose yes or no to the question “Do you want the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistani areas outside the administration of the Region to become an independent state?”
