Palestine Joins Interpol Despite Opposition From Israel

The state of Palestine became a member of international police organization Interpol on Wednesday.

“Each application was approved by a more than two-thirds majority vote at INTERPOL’s General Assembly, currently meeting in Beijing for its 86th annual session,” Interpol said in a statement.

The Palestine Liberation Organization specified in a Twitter message that over 75 percent of Interpol members voted in favor of the country’s full membership. The move has been opposed by Israel.

At present, the police organization unites 192 countries.
