U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis said on Tuesday that remaining a party to the Iran nuclear deal is in the national security interest for the United States.
When asked by Senator Angus King in a committee hearing if he thought remaining in the deal is in Washington’s interests, Mattis said “yes, I do.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has time until October 15 to certify whether Iran is in compliance with the JCPOA, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed in July 2015 to put restraints on Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
