U.S. authorities are revoking economic sanctions imposed against Sudan in recognition of “sustained positive actions” taken by Khartoum to maintain ceasefire in conflict areas of the country, improve humanitarian access and cooperation with Washington, U.S. Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement on Friday.
“The revocation will be effective October 12, 2017,” Ms. Nauert noted.
The action was preceded by a 16-month diplomatic effort, according to the State Department.
Last month, the administration of President Donald J. Trump removed Sudan from the list of countries subjected to travel restrictions.
