The U.N. Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on Wednesday to discuss the latest ballistic missile launch by North Korea.
The UNSC meeting, arranged at the request of the ambassadors from the United States, Japan and South Korea, will take place at 4:30 p.m. ET.
On Tuesday, Pyongyang launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) after a 10-week pause in its weapons testing.
U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters at the White House that the missile went “higher, frankly, than any previous shot they have taken.”
“It’s a continued effort to build a…ballistic missile threat that endangers world peace,” he added.
U.S. President Donald J. Trump noted that Washington would “take care” of the situation, but offered no details.
