At least eight people died and more than 12 were injured in New York City on Tuesday after a truck driver deliberately hit people in Tribeca neighborhood, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference on Tuesday.
The vehicle struck multiple people on the path. There are several fatalities and numerous people injured.

“The vehicle continued south striking another vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms & was shot by NYPD,” the New York City Police Department said in a Twitter message. “The suspect is in custody.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo visited the scene.

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has briefed President Donald J. Trump on the incident, which Mr. de Blasio described as “a cowardly act of terror.”
“Let me be clear, based on the information we have at this moment, this was an act of terror,” Mr. de Blasio said during a press conference in New York.

Mr. Cuomo described the incident as a “lone wolf” attack, adding there was no evidence of a wider terror plot.
