Teaching at the School of Arts at SOAS, University of London. She has published extensively on Uyghur expressive culture and religion and is currently writing a book on the Uyghur Islamic revival. She works with applied projects on Central Asian music, including a British Academy Sustainable Development Fund project to revitalize Uyghur heritage in Kazakhstan
