A group of men stole jewelry belonging to the spouse of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Hulya, at Manila airport when the minister was in the Philippines with an official visit.

Mr. Cavusoglu participated in the annual ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN. When he returned to Turkey with his wife, she realized her jewelry was missing.

Mr. Cavusoglu informed the Turkish Embassy in Manila of the incident, and the officials contacted the Philippine authorities.

Ed Monreal, the director of Manila International Airport, told the Philippine media that the thieves had been detained by police.

Philippine Star daily reported that four men – Yves Ronald Baguion, Wilson Mataganas, John Andews Racoma and Mr. Alfaro – were placed in custody for stealing jewelry of Ms. Cavusoglu.

Police found the missing jewelry box in the wardrobe of one of the suspects, a baggage handler at the airport.
